Silvermine:
Travelling from Cape Town to Kommetjie or
the Cape of Good Hope, one can travel via Ou Kaapse Weg (Old
Cape Road, the M64), a scenic pass that straddles the
Peninsulas mountainous backbone and provides a convenient
place to explore the mountains without having to walk too far.
At the top there is a long, level stretch and a viewing point
(Silvermine sign) before the road begins to curve
and descend. Turn left along a short road that leads to a parking
area. The adjacent rocky ridge is a fine site for Ground
Woodpecker (p.105*), Cape
Siskin (p.33*), Familiar Chat and Peregrine
Falcon.
