Finding
Cape Rockjumper:
The
most accessible area to search for rockjumpers
(see also p.73*) is the rock-strewn slope at 4 on site map,
to the south of Gantouw Pass. To reach this slope, follow the
gravel track until it intersects with some powerlines, and turn
left onto a small, inconspicuously marked footpath leading up
to Gantouw Pass. Walk up to the signal cannons, and work your
way to the left (southwards) up the slope, keeping an eye out
for rapidly scurrying silhouettes on the clusters of boulders.
Note that searching for rockjumpers typically involves scrambling
along rocky outcrops and is only recommended to visitors confident
of their agility! You can also gain access to the ridge at its
southern end, just north of the N2. An inconspicuous footpath
at 5 leads up the slope from the gravel track. At the ridge,
the path peters out and you will need to work your way northwards
along the series of outcrops. Cape Rockjumpers are to be found
here, but we must stress that this is not an easy walk.
